Ballet classes for adults

Develop grace and an agile body & mind

Ballet classes for adults at Move Through Life Dance Studio in Adelaide

Take our short quiz ...

Did you do ballet when you were younger and wish you could return?

Did you wish you could do ballet but never got the chance?

Have you always done ballet and don’t want to stop?

Do you want to maintain or develop a youthful physique?

Do you want to keep your mind sharp?

Do you want to improve posture and relieve tension in your neck, shoulders and back?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then perhaps one of our ballet classes is for you.

How ballet class makes a difference

Your posture will improve, which will make you look taller and slimmer, reduce stress and strain on your spine and other bones and joints.

Your mind will stay sharp as you get better at recognising and remembering patterns, improve focus, and exercise your memory.

You’ll reduce stress and worry as you take an hour out of your day to just be in the moment and calm your mind.

Develop long, lean and toned muscles in your legs and arms which have strength, endurance, and power, plus they’ll look great. Ballet arm movements help avoid or get rid of ‘chicken wings’ (upper arm flab).

Relieve tension and pain in your neck, shoulders and back by working out the kinks and knots developed by hunching over a computer all day, and developing core strength.

Avoid or minimise impact of chronic diseases associated with ageing like osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes, heart disease by building bone mass, strengthening muscles that support your joints, building cardiovascular fitness, and maintaining a leaner body weight.

Improve confidence as you develop grace and the effortless way of moving that ballet dancers have.

What type of dance is it?

Once you’ve done ballet class, it always feels like coming home when you go back to the barre!

Class structure

A ballet class is a structured class that begins with a series of exercises at the barre to warm up and to strengthen feet and legs, loosen your hip joints, and develop coordination between arms, legs and head.  It then progresses to the centre, where you practice arm movements, slow and sustained movements for balance and leg strength and height, turns, small jumps and larger travelling steps or steps of elevation.

Class atmosphere

You may think of a ballet class as an uptight affair, accompanied by classical piano music, but our classes are very informal and relaxed. Often the teacher will choose non-classical music, and there is plenty of laughter and friendliness.

Work at your own pace

We offer classes from beginners through to advanced.  There is no pressure to get your legs high or to jump.  Everyone is encouraged to work at their own pace and within their own physical abilities.  So don’t worry if you have problems with your knees or ankles, or if you’ve lost the flexibility of your youth. Everything can be adjusted, and you can work up to the level you are comfortable with.
